  • Who founded Roshni Homes Trust?
  • The idea of Roshni Homes was conceived by Mr. Anwar Dar, an eminent businessman with humanitarian concerns. He had a desire to help the unfortunate children of Pakistan and replace their cries with smiles. He shared his idea with his associates. They all pledged their full support to this noble cause and encouraged them to proceed. They devoted themselves as a team for this humanitarian purpose. Their untiring efforts and unflinching determination helped them to succeed in spite of so many obstacles.

  • What is Roshni Homes Trust?
  • Roshni Homes is a volunteer, non-political, non-sectarian, non-profitable charity organization. It is an unconventional shelter for the children without parental care. The unique system of Roshni Homes aims to provide these children with the best education, motherly care, and home-like environment so that it may lead to the balanced development of their intellectual, moral and physical personality.

  • What are the available facilities?
  • Roshni Homes is spread over an area of approximately 7 acres of land. It has play grounds for cricket, hockey, football & badminton, one administration block, and eight homes. Each home consists of three beds with attached bathroom, one bedroom for the tutor, TV lounge and kitchen and round the clock security system.

    Roshni Homes has weekly visit of physicians, approximately two visits of the psychotherapist in a quarter or as per requirement, games, recreational and shopping tours, cozy environment and hygienic diet. All the mothers appointed in Roshni Homes are at least graduate because we believe that only educated mothers can produce an educated generation. . Along with the graduate mothers, a Director Academics who is masters in Education is also there to ensure quality in education.

  • Is it a modeled Family Care?
  • Girls and boys of different ages grow up together in Roshni Homes as one family like brothers and sisters till the age of 12. After the age of 12 boys and girls are moved to gender specified youth homes. Natural brothers and sisters are not separated. Every family has a house of its own, where children enjoy a real sense of belonging. Children grow and learn together, sharing responsibilities and the joys and sorrows of daily life.

  • How do you define an orphan?
  • Selection of child is extremely important in the realization of Roshni's vision. Our child induction criteria are as follows.

    Boy Child age 4-6
    Girl Child age 4-7
    Deserving & Orphaned

  • What is Zakat?
  • Zakat is a levy on the property of the wealthy for distribution to society's poor. The Arabic word "Zakat" has connotations of purity, increase and blessing, and paying it purifies, increases and blesses the remainder of one's wealth.

    "Of their goods, take Zakat, so that you might purify and sanctify them." (Al-Quran 9:103)

    Zakat is 2.5% of all zakatable wealth that has been in your possession for a lunar year. If your wealth amounts to less than a threshold figure, termed the nisab, then no Zakat is payable. This threshold limit is 87.48g (3oz) of gold, or its equivalent in cash.

  • How is the sponsorship money spent?
  • Our system aims to provide basic necessities to orphans, improve their health and nutrition, and support the orphan educationally, socially, and morally. All school-aged children receive an education.

  • How much of my sponsorship money will reach the orphans?
  • You can adopt-support an orphan's education at as low as US$ 2 a day:

    US$ 60 per month is spent on education and US$ 40 per month on living and food expenses.

  • Can I cancel the sponsorship?
  • Yes you can cancel your sponsorship at any time you wish.

  • How long will the sponsorship continue?
  • You can sponsor a child as long as you wish, up to the age of 18, if you wish to continue sponsorship after the child reaches 18, you are free to do so.

  • What information will I receive about the orphan I sponsor?
  • If you adopt a child, you will have access to academic details of your sponsored orphan via e-mail from the fundraising office. You will also receive an annual report on the progress of the orphan.

  • Can I contact the orphan?
  • If necessary, you can send letters & gifts to your sponsored orphan by sending the item/s to the Fund-raising Office.

  • Can I visit the orphan?
  • Yes, supervised visits can be organized after prior arrangement with admin office. However, visits can not be made directly to the orphan's home due to Child Protection. We are very particular as regards to not to hurt the ego of the child.
